The CCOB is a globally unique conceptual design in the world, in the field of maritime engineering , structured through the integration of three systems: an experimental management , a system of physical modeling and a system of numerical modeling .
The Cantabria Coastal and Ocean Basin (CCOB) is part of the program of Scientific Infrastructure – Technology Singulares the Ministry of Science and Innovation, in which the Autonomous Community of Cantabria as funding involved and the Foundation Institute of Environmental Hydraulics of Cantabria , which responsible for facilities management . Its primary mission is to provide scientific- technological, technology and services for the development of national and international maritime engineering (offshore and coastal ) knowledge.
With a width of 44 m, 30 m long and variable depth , is a facility designed for testing in maritime and coastal engineering large scale . Capable of generating multidirectional wave , current and wind omnidirectional , besides having a trench 6 m in diameter and 8 m additional depth .

The CCOB is part of MARHIS, Maritime Aggregated Research Hydraulic Infrastructures, a distributed research infrastructure of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) in Spain, unique in the hydraulic engineering field. It aims to increase the efficiency and capability of Spanish numerical, experimental and field facilities for applications to coastal, harbour, offshore engineering and the many interactions between structures and marine climatic factors.
